“A masterpiece of microcosm, a perfection of the small, quiet read”. - Ali Smith
Perhaps better known as the author and illustrator of the beloved Moomins (and if you love her illustrations, please check out her interpretation of The Hobbit), Tove Jansson's The Summer Book looks deceptively like a cute quick summer read, but is probably best digested in smaller pieces.
Come away with us to a tiny island in the gulf of Finland (life goals) where life is governed by the pace of the sea; a sea full of fish, firework crates and sunken rubbish. Meet Sophie and Grandmother, two creative, highly-strung and incredibly human characters inspired by Jansson's own family and experiences.
We'll be meeting online for an evening filled with discussion, questions, readings and snacks! We'll be sharing some questions and reading prompts, a pairing dish and a cocktail recipe that compliments the book perfectly so you can make it and even enjoy it on the night.
When? Thursday 5th September, 7.30pmWhere? Virtually on Google Meet (but spiritually together!)Do RSVP here - we'd love to see you!
